Senators, aides barred from passing corridor near Akpabio’s office

The National Assembly in Abuja has stopped senators, members of the House of Representatives, and their aides from using the corridor outside the office of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

This decision is part of new security measures implemented around the Senate Chamber, the gangway, and the corridor leading to Akpabio’s office.

The Office of the Serjeant-at-Arms issued an internal memo on October 2, informing lawmakers of the restrictions.

The memo, signed by Brig-Gen Etido E Ekpo (retd) and addressed to the Chairman of Senate Services, made it clear that the White House lobby and the corridor in front of the Senate President’s office are now off-limits to all aides and personal assistants.

Lawmakers have been asked to pass the instructions to their staff to ensure compliance.

The move comes as part of reinforced security at the National Assembly Complex to control movement in sensitive areas near the Senate leadership.
