Security Forces Arrest Nearly 300 Suspected Kidnappers Terrorizing Kwara Community

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and some foreign security agents, have arrested close to 300 suspected kidnappers in Kwara State.

The suspects were reportedly apprehended at Mechede, a Bororo/Fulani settlement near Oro-Ago, under the Oro-Ago District in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

According to DSS operatives who spoke on condition of anonymity, the arrests followed intensive surveillance carried out around the settlement for a period of one to two months.

The ongoing military operations across the Kwara South Senatorial District have led to the neutralisation of several bandits in the area. Others, who attempted to flee following sustained security offensives, have also been intercepted.

Some of the fleeing suspects were reportedly heading towards Ekiti State, which shares a boundary with Kwara. Sixteen suspected bandits were recently arrested by security operatives in Ekiti while attempting to cross into the state.

The suspects were said to have been intercepted with over 100 rustled cattle as they tried to escape the intensified military onslaught on their former bases in Kwara State.
