Saudi Arabia Shuts Down 12 Illegal Water Facilities in Jeddah Over Serious Violations

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Commerce has intensified inspection campaigns in Jeddah, leading to the closure of 12 illegal water facilities after authorities uncovered serious violations posing risks to public health.

The operation was carried out as part of broader efforts to strengthen market oversight and ensure consumer safety, particularly in sectors directly linked to public health.

Serious Violations Threatened Public Safety

The Ministry stated that inspection teams, working in coordination with eight government entities, identified multiple dangerous violations inside the targeted facilities.

These included the use of water from unknown sources in production processes, illegal exploitation of the public water network, and packaging water in bottles belonging to licensed businesses in an attempt to mislead consumers.

Investigations also revealed that operators used permits for bottled water sales and retail stores as a cover for unauthorized production and packaging activities carried out through illegal production lines.

Violators Arrested and Referred to Authorities

Authorities also uncovered additional legal and regulatory violations, including commercial concealment, operating without proper licenses, failure to issue tax invoices, labor law violations, and breaches related to water network regulations.

The Ministry confirmed that all violating sites were immediately shut down, with those responsible arrested and referred to security authorities for legal action.

Officials emphasized that strict penalties will be enforced against all violators to protect consumers and ensure the safety and quality of products available in the market.

The campaign reflects ongoing government efforts to combat illegal commercial practices and eliminate activities that could endanger public health or undermine consumer trust.
