Salasya Counters Sifuna in a Scathing Attack

Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has responded to a statement by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

In a TV interview on Thursday May 8, Sifuna said he would forgive Salasya for failing to know the content of the agreement between President William Ruto and Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga but not learned lawyers like Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda.

Sifuna claimed the MP had not read the document and assumed that he signed the agreement.

“I can forgive Salasya for refusing to read this document and assuming Sifuna signed it, but I cannot forgive Professor Ojienda, because he is a lawyer,” he said.

Sifuna carried a copy of the document to the live show and accused politicians of misquoting it as “coalition agreement”.

“When you see people running away from a document, that’s the reason I have brought this thing here, because there has been a lot of nonsense being said about the contents of this document. Luckily for us, all of us here are lawyers,” he added.

Salasya Hits Back

In a quick rejoinder, Salasya said that Sifuna has no advantage over him in terms of education, political career, or general traits.

However, he stated that Sifuna depends on Raila for political survival while he is a self-made politician.

Salasya asked the Senator to accord him some respect as a presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.

“Sifuna, you have a degree in law, I have a degree in banking and finance. You are a senator am a member of parliament. You come from western, and I also come from Western,” he said.

“The only difference Between me and you, I am a self-made leader while you were given by Raila, and you can’t survive in politics without him so respect me. I am your presidential candidate.”

Additionally, he advised Sifuna to apply his eloquence in courtrooms, not politics.

Sifuna Slams Broad-Based Govt

During the interview, Sifuna accused leaders of introducing new things into the signed agreement.

He explained that the document never established a broad-based government as claimed by President William Ruto and other political leaders.

Sifuna referred to the parole evidence rule, which blocks the introduction of oral evidence once the contents of an agreement have been reduced into a document.

“The people who are supporters of this animal, called Broad-based, are running away from the contents of the document. That is why the president gets annoyed with me when I remind him what the document says,” Sifuna said.

He stated that ODM leaders joined Ruto’s cabinet before Raila and Ruto signed an agreement.

“The so-called Broad-based animal started existing in Ruto’s mind before this document was signed. This document was signed on 7th of February 2025. By that time, Mbadi, Joho, and the others were already in cabinet,” he said.
