Russia Criticizes UN Resolution on Gaza, Calls for End to Hostilities

Russia's Foreign Ministry has voiced its concerns over the most recent United Nations Security Council Resolution 2720 regarding the situation in Gaza. The Ministry criticized the resolution for its failure to address the principal demand of halting hostilities, stating that without this cessation, the grave situation in Gaza can't be resolved.

Resolution Falls Short According to Russia

In the statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that the resolution doesn't alleviate the concerns repeatedly raised by the UN Secretary-General and the heads of specialized humanitarian organizations. The primary issue being the inability to deliver aid to Gaza amidst severe bombardment and shelling. It further highlighted the near-total obliteration of civilian infrastructure, including medical facilities, that escalates the crisis.

Russia's Abstention from Voting

In response to calls from Palestinian and Arab representatives, Russia abstained from voting on the resolution. The Russian Foreign Ministry's statement emphasized the need to restore a political horizon in the Palestinian-Israeli settlement process. It advocated for internationally recognized legal standards that would allow for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, peacefully coexisting with Israel.

Reports of Forced Misrepresentation

In a related development, a recently released prisoner from Gaza reported to the Quds News Network about a disturbing incident. According to the prisoner, Israeli forces detained them from their homes and forced two young men to wear the uniform of the Al-Qassam Brigades. The forces then released dogs on them and filmed the incident. The report suggests that this situation was crafted to falsely present these young men as fighters of the Al-Qassam Brigades, further complicating the volatile situation.
