The honeymoon phase for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United appears to be over.

After a challenging start to his tenure, the Portuguese manager is making bold moves to overhaul his underperforming squad, with Christian Eriksen and Antony reportedly at the top of his January transfer list.

Amorim, renowned for his tactical acumen at Sporting CP, was brought in last month to replace Erik ten Hag, sparking high expectations. However, inconsistent performances, including a 3-2 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest, have exposed the difficulties of his new role at Old Trafford.

While Amorim has publicly taken responsibility for the team’s struggles, reports suggest he is privately preparing significant changes. According to GiveMeSport, Eriksen, 32, and Antony, 24, are considered surplus to requirements as the manager looks to free up funds for reinforcements.

Eriksen, whose contract expires next summer, has been largely out of favor under Amorim, featuring just once since the managerial change. Antony, United’s £86 million marquee signing, has struggled to live up to expectations this season, registering only seven appearances in all competitions.

The combined weekly wages of £350,000 for the two players represent a substantial strain on the club’s finances. Their potential exits would not only ease the wage bill but also provide Amorim with the resources to bring in fresh talent as he seeks to turn around what has been a disappointing season for United.
