Road Safety Officials Abducted by Gunmen in Ebonyi State

In Ebonyi State, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that two of its personnel were abducted by gunmen on the Abakaliki-Enugu federal highway.

Recent reports indicate that travel routes in Ebonyi and nearby areas have become perilous for travelers due to frequent abductions carried out by armed individuals.

The Nkalagu (Ebonyi) and Idodo (Enugu) sections of the road have witnessed a surge in abductions, with incidents escalating daily.

According to FRSC’s Sector Commander in Ebonyi, Henry Igwe, the personnel were taken on March 8 after completing their duties at the Nkalagu office and heading back to Enugu.

Igwe mentioned, “Following their failure to return home, their families were contacted informing them of the abduction and ransom demands. Negotiations are ongoing between the families and the kidnappers, while we are providing support to facilitate their safe return.”
