The Coalition of Rivers State Leaders of Thought has issued a strong call for the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly to abandon its plan to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara, warning that such actions could plunge the state into a severe crisis.

According to PUNCH, the coalition condemned the recent moves by the 27 lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing them as actions capable of causing unimaginable turmoil in Rivers State.

This development follows a ruling by the Appeal Court on July 4, which upheld the membership of Amaewhule and 24 other lawmakers in the state House of Assembly, overturning an earlier High Court order that had restrained them.

In response, Amaewhule presided over a plenary session on Monday, giving Governor Fubara a seven-day ultimatum to re-present the 2024 Appropriation Bill before the House.

Governor Fubara, addressing leaders and stakeholders from Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas on Wednesday, asserted that he would not re-submit the 2024 budget, as he had already initiated the 2025 budget focused on healthcare, education, and agriculture.

The Convener of the Coalition, High Chief Sunnie Chukumele, during a press conference on Thursday in Port Harcourt, cautioned the Amaewhule-led Assembly against actions that could lead to anarchy.

“We call on Martin Amaewhule and his colleagues to jettison the idea of impeaching the governor of the state. The impacts of the consequences of their threats should only be imagined. They are inviting anarchy,” Chukumele stated.

Chukumele also called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and prevail on Wike, who the leaders allege is exacerbating the political tension in Rivers State.

“Our son, the FCT Minister, is sufficiently linked to the unabating political crisis in his home state, Rivers State. The situation created in our dear state is unacceptable and has the potential to throw the state into an irredeemable crisis of unimaginable proportions. We call on our son, the FCT Minister, once more to rein in his henchmen and foot soldiers in the political crisis in the state,” Chukumele urged.

The coalition also appealed to the judiciary to exercise wisdom in handling matters related to Rivers State, noting that public opinion on their management of these issues is currently negative.

“The National Judicial Council should, as a matter of urgency, save the image of the judiciary by also taking cognisance of the impact assessment on matters the courts are handling concerning burning issues in Rivers State,” Chukumele added.

Reiterating its support for Governor Fubara, the coalition urged him to remain focused on delivering good governance to the people of Rivers State..……See More
