Juventus are tracking Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori this summer according to Gazzetta dello Sport, with the Italian side keen to add more Azzurri internationals to their squad under new ownership priorities.

The 23-year-old joined Arsenal from Bologna in July 2024 for £42 million but has found consistent starting opportunities difficult to secure, losing ground to Piero Hincapie in recent weeks.

Multiple reports from Italy suggest Calafiori himself is open to a return to Serie A if the right offer arrives, with AS Roma his sentimental preference but Juventus and Inter Milan the clubs with genuine financial capacity to make it happen.

CaughtOffside reported that while Calafiori has not made a formal request to leave, he is understood to favour Italy over other options if Arsenal agree to sell during the window.

Arsenal’s position remains cautious. TEAMtalk reported the club has “little intention” of selling a player they regard as valuable to their defensive options across multiple positions.

His versatility is the key factor in Arsenal’s thinking. Calafiori can operate as a centre-back or left-back and at 23 has significant development years still ahead, making him precisely the kind of asset the club tends to protect.

Juventus face two meaningful hurdles. First, they need to qualify for next season’s Champions League before the economics of a significant transfer fee make sense internally.

Second, they need Calafiori himself to push for the move in a way that softens Arsenal’s resistance, since the Gunners are unlikely to negotiate from a purely commercial standpoint with a player still well within their planning.

Arsenal’s asking price has been reported at around £40 million, a figure that reflects the player’s value while also making any deal structurally difficult for clubs still managing their financial position after the European football reforms.

Inter Milan are also active in this situation, with their own defensive reconstruction needs potentially making them more aggressive in negotiations than Juventus if Champions League qualification is secured.

Chelsea have been mentioned but a move to a domestic rival is considered extremely unlikely given Arsenal’s standard approach to in-league transfers for key squad members.

The most realistic outcome is that Calafiori remains at the Emirates for another season unless Juventus can meet both the financial and sporting conditions required to move the deal forward.
