Since its inception, Toyota has co-developed the GR86 with Subaru. It's a mechanical twin of the BRZ. And Subaru builds it at its Gunma plant in Japan. But according to a wild rumor coming out of Japan, that paradigm may be changing. If the report is correct, Toyota would switch partners from Subaru to Mazda, and the brand would build the GR86 on the MX-5 Miata's platform.
