The Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria (CIFCFIN), in collaboration with the International Law Association (ILA), Nigerian Branch, and the Nigerian Bar Association Institute for Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE), has announced the commencement of registration for the Certificate of Advanced Studies in International Law and Fraud Investigation.

The advanced certificate programme is scheduled to hold from April 13 to 14, 2026, beginning 9:00am daily, at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Piwayi District, off Umaru Musa Yar’adua Express Way, Airport Road, Abuja. A virtual participation option via Zoom will also be available for interested participants.

According to the organisers, the course is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the role of international law in fraud detection, corruption prevention and financial crime management, particularly within critical economic sectors such as mining, oil and gas, banking, finance and alternative dispute resolution.

CIFCFIN, established in 2022 and chartered by the CIFCFIN Establishment Act, 2022, is Nigeria’s apex professional body dedicated to the regulation, training and supervision of forensic and fraud investigation practice. The institute aims to provide a robust professional framework for forensic experts, investigators and legal practitioners involved in fraud prevention and prosecution.

The organisers noted that the increasing complexity of cross-border crimes and illicit financial flows has made it imperative for key stakeholders in government, private legal practice, academia and students to acquire advanced knowledge of relevant international legal instruments and multilateral agreements.

The course curriculum will focus on the core sources and principles of international law applicable to fraud investigation, the practical challenges limiting effective implementation of international legal frameworks, and the innovative skillsets required to negotiate and enforce international instruments in a globalised environment. Special emphasis will be placed on topical issues such as anti-money laundering, proceeds of crime management, illicit financial flows and inter-agency collaboration.

Participants will undergo intensive in-class sessions and will also enjoy free participation at the ILA Nigeria International Law Conference on Illicit Financial Flows, an added value component of the programme.

Course fees vary based on membership status. For non-ILA and non-CIFCFIN members, early bird registration attracts a fee of ₦200,000, while regular registration is ₦300,000. Virtual participation costs ₦150,000. For ILA and CIFCFIN members, early bird registration is ₦150,000, regular registration ₦200,000, and virtual participation ₦100,000. The organisers stated that early bird rates will close on March 14, 2026.

Certificates will be awarded to participants at the end of the course.

The programme is convened under the leadership of Dr. Iliyasu Gashinbaki, FCOFA, FCCF, Founder President of CIFCFIN, and Professor Damilola Olawuyi, SAN, President of the International Law Association, Nigerian Branch.
