Raila calls for an end to abductions

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has called for an immediate halt to the ongoing abductions, which he claims instil fear among Kenyans.

While in Homa Bay County alongside President William Ruto for this year’s Genowa Governor’s Cup on Friday, Raila stated that such acts tarnish the country’s image and should not carry over into the new year.

“Sasa tunaingia mwaka mpya. Tunataka mabaya yote yaishe na mwaka huu ambao tunazika. Hatutaki kuona dhambi ikivuka kuingia mwaka mpya. Vijana wetu wote wawe salama,” he remarked.

The ODM leader, who is now seeking to become the next Chairperson of the African Union Commission, indicated that he has raised his concerns with President Ruto and hopes the situation will be addressed before it escalates.

“Nimeambia Rafiki yangu Rais William Ruto mambo ya vijana kushikwa ovyo ovyo na kupigwa pingu, na kuwekwa mahali na kuteswa ikome kabisa,” he said.

Raila demands that action be taken against those responsible for the alarming abductions and enforced disappearances, as their actions pose a significant threat to national security.

“Wale ambao wanafanya mambo kama haya washikwe, wanaswe na wawekwe ndani,” charged Raila.

The former Prime Minister also addressed the issue of online attacks targeting certain political leaders that currently influence public discourse. Despite widespread criticism at times, he stated that he holds no grudges against any Kenyans for expressing their views.

“Hata kama wewe unapinga mimi, wewe si adui wangu. Hata ukinitusi, wewe si adui. Mimi nimetusiwa sana katika mitandao ya kijamii, lakini ninacheka na kusema huyo ni mpumbavu. Sisi tunataka amani katika taifa letu ili Kenya isonge mbele kimaendeleo,” he said.
