He said security operatives had been deployed to the market to prevent hoodlums from stealing properties.

This comes five months after a similar night fire razed part of the international market in March 2023.

Meanwhile, goods worth millions of Naira were reportedly lost when fire recently gutted the popular Oja Tuntun market in Osun State.

It was revealed that at least 17 shops were affected by the inferno which happened on Saturday morning at the market situated in Ile-Ife.

The Oja Tuntun market is noted to be the largest market in the ancient town.

The spokesperson of Osun State Fire Service, Adekunle Ibrahim, who confirmed the fire incident in a statement made available to journalists, said the cause of the tragic incident could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

According to him, the firemen received a distress call from a resident living near the market about 12:30 am on Saturday.
