A printer known as George Sopruchi was fatally shot by suspected cultists on Abakiliki Street in the Mile 1 area of Diobu, Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, on Saturday.

Reports indicate that the gunmen followed their target to Abakiliki close around 8:30 pm and opened fire while he was engaged in a conversation.

This incident occurred just 72 hours after another man was shot dead by a suspected cultist along the Nanka/Lumuber axis of Diobu.

An eyewitness revealed that in addition to taking the man’s life, the gunmen also stole his motorcycle and one of his mobile phones.

The eyewitness, speaking on the condition of anonymity, commented, “It was reminiscent of the incident three days ago when some cult members tracked a man to Nanka/Lumumba as he was buying noodles and fatally shot him.

“The situation in Diobu is quite alarming. Hopefully, the police can step up their efforts so that residents can feel safe again.”

Last Thursday, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the killing on Nanka/Lumuber Street and mentioned that investigations were ongoing to apprehend the suspects who had fled the scene.

Attempts to contact the police spokesperson for information on the latest incident were unsuccessful as calls made to her mobile phone went unanswered by our reporter.

As of the time of compiling this report on Sunday afternoon, there had been no response to a text message sent to her mobile phone.
