Prince Harry has ‘no way back’ to family even if marriage ‘goes pear-shaped’, claims ex-palace insider

A royal biographer has promised that, despite the Sussexes moving back to the UK, there is still no hope for Harry to return to the family fold even if his relationship with Meghan were to hit the rocks.

The fallout continues from King Charles’ bombshell letter on Monday - where he confirmed Harry and Meghan will remain non-working royals, and the pair have indicated their “surprise” at the public decision.

Speaking with the Daily Express, royal expert Dickie Arbiter, who is also a former Palace aide, poured cold water on any suggestion Harry has any route back into the trust of the inner Windsor circle – even in the circumstance where his marriage to Meghan flounders.

“There's no way back for him as a working royal,” said Dickie. “Even if the marriage goes pear-shaped and they separate, he won't be a working royal again.”

When asked what the least favourable move the Sussexes have made so far is, Dickie replied, “The worst is how they've sold themselves to the media, to television in particular, American television, and how the Americans bought into it.”

He added, “The Americans, they're quite gullible actually. I'm sorry to say.”

Harry is embroiled in a dispute with the Home Office over whether his security while on UK soil will be provided by the taxpayer.

The Prince, alongside other high-profile celebrities, has also been fighting a legal battle against the Daily Mail and additional news organisations over his privacy.

There has also been controversy over Meghan and Harry’s use of their royal titles, which they agreed not to use as part of their non-working royal status. However, they have been accused in the past of making use of the titles.

The letter from King Charles addresses some of these points directly. It confirmed the “half-in-half-out” deal struck in 2020 remains in force they will be regarded as private citizens “with commercial and charitable interests”.

They are not to use “HRH” titles in any official capacity – and any queries about the couple’s security arrangements are to be directed to Buckingham Palace.
