President Ahmed Bola Tinubu is set to officially launch the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2022-2026 in the first quarter of 2024.

The announcement was made by Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Lateef Olasukanmi Fagbemi, SAN, during a seminar commemorating the United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day 2023, in Abuja on Friday.

Mr. Fagbemi said the Federal Executive Council (FEC) is committed to tackling corruption, noting its approval of the NACS 2017-2021 in 2017. Following the expiration of the previous strategy, the minister said the FEC further approved its extension for another four years in November 2022.

According to him, the National Anti-Corruption Strategy is focused on five Pillars which serves as the driving force for both the public and private sectors, including: Prevention of Corruption; Public Engagement;
Campaign for Ethical Re-orientation;
Enforcement and Sanction; and Recovery and Management of Proceeds of Crime.

He said, “The inauguration of the IMC and the launch of the NACS 2022-2026 is therefore a very critical activity which hopefully will be carried out in the first Quarter of the year 2024.

“The Members of the NACS-IMC are as follows:Attorney General of the Federation as
Chairman, Minister of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Minister of Interior,
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Information and Culture, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Minister of Communication & Digital Economy, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Chairman Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption
and Financial Crimes, Chairman House Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, Representative of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, not below the rank of a Permanent Secretary,

“Achievements of the Implementation of the NACS (2017-2021): Establishment of a Secretariat at the FMoJ for the implementation of the NACS; Development of implementation tools for the NACS; viz
Action plan; and Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, Collaboration with Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies (ACA); Sensitization Workshops of all MDAs under the IATT to review the progress of the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy; Monitoring & Evaluation (M & E) exercise for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAS) identified as pilot MDAs for the implementation of NACS” he said.

Continuing he stated: “Furthermore, the following activities/programmes are earmarked for immediate implementation:

“The official launch of the NACS 2022 2026 by the President Ahmed Bola Tinubu; Robust interface with the Governors Forum and relevant stakeholders at Sub-National Levels;
Inauguration of the NACS Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC); Activation of the Anti-Corruption Funding Framework; Development and validation of the NACS Action Plan; Engagement with State and non-State Actors;
Compliance with the reporting time frame provided in the NACS Action Plan; Improve cooperation, collaboration and synergy among MDAs, Anti- Corruption Agencies (ACA), Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and other key stakeholders; Legislative Advocacy and robust interface with the NASS to ensure speedy passage of pending Anti-corruption Bill; and
Incorporation of the NACS into the Strategic Plan and activities of MDAS, ACAS, and LEAS”.
