SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS ADELEKE'S ELECTION 

The five member panel of justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria has delivered judgement on who won the July 16, 2022 governorship election in Osun State.

In the judgement read by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, Senator Ademola Adeleke was declared the winner of the governorship election.

Recall, INEC had in 2022 declared Adeleke as winner of the governorship election because he and his party, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored majority of the votes cast in the election.

But at the election tribunal, where the win was contested by Isiaka Oyetola, there was a split judgment of two-to-one, and the judgement that was delivered in January 2023 declared that Oyetola and not Adeleke won majority of the lawful votes in the election.

Today, Nigerian Supreme Court has declared Senator Ademola Adeleke as the winner, and not the immediate past governor, Isiaka Oyetola.

The Supreme Court judgement upheld the judgement earlier given by Nigerian Court of Appeal that had ruled, and affirmed that Adeleke is the winner of the July 16, 2022, governorship election, which was appealed by Oyetola.
