  • Griffner and Studio F. A. Porsche have teamed up to create a stylish prefabricated home.
  • It’s known as the floating house and it features a stylish design with floor-to-ceiling windows as well as black tiles on the first floor.
  • While the exterior shell is built quickly (2 weeks), the complete home takes 5-7 months with a starting price of nearly €1.17 million.

Prefab homes aren’t known for being bold or luxurious, but that’s about to change as Studio F. A. Porsche is getting involved. The surprising development is the result of a collaboration with Griffner, which has resulted in the creation of the “floating house.”

The name comes from the look of the home as the first floor is covered in black glass tiles so the second story appears to float. That’s a bit optimistic, but the house features a striking design thanks to a “continuous façade” and floor-to-ceiling windows.

The companies didn’t go into many specifics, but the house has a “monumental entrance door” that measures 5.6 feet (1.7 meters) wide and 8.7 feet (2.64 meters) tall. Besides being massive, it features an asymmetrical pivot point and an integrated window.

Pictures also show an expansive deck and patio as well as accent lights that encircle the roof. The drainage system for the latter has been “elegantly hidden behind the glass facade.”

Neither company said much about the interior, but buyers will find a floating staircase with a continuous glass railing. They’re joined by ceilings that measure up to 19.1 feet (5.85 meters) tall.

Other notable highlights include an open kitchen and a slick ‘play room’ for adults. We can also see a master bathroom with a glass door as well as dual sinks.

That being said, the house is customizable and can sport different designs as well as features. The smallest version spans approximately 180 square meters (1,938 square feet) and costs around €6,500 ($6,938 / £5,571) per square meter (10.7 square foot). That means customers are look at spending at nearly €1.17 ($1.45 / £1) million on the home.

While that price can vary, the exterior shell only takes two weeks to build at Griffner’s factory. However, customers can expect to wait five to seven months before moving in.
