Police Withdraw VIP Protection Nationwide as Officers Attached to Politicians, Businessmen Return to Base

In a major policy shift, the Nigeria Police Force has ordered the immediate withdrawal of all police personnel attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs) across the country, directing them to return to their various bases with effect from Monday, 24 November 2025.

The directive, contained in a leaked internal memo from SPU Base 16, Lagos, signed by ASP Neji Veronica (Admin Officer) acting for the Commanding Officer, states that the order is a direct sequel to the recent directive of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on the withdrawal of police aides from VIPs and politically exposed persons.

“You are all warned to report back before the end of today Monday 24/11/2025 and all to attend the Lecture Parade tomorrow. Attendance shall be taken from the nominal roll,” the memo warned, stressing strict compliance.

The order affects hundreds of police officers currently attached to governors, ministers, senators, top businessmen, traditional rulers, and other high-profile individuals who have long enjoyed personal police protection.

Sources within the Force say the move is part of ongoing efforts to reposition the Nigeria Police, free up manpower for core policing duties, and reduce the strain on operational resources.

The withdrawal is expected to significantly boost the number of officers available for general crime prevention, response, and community policing across the country.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Force Headquarters nor the Police Service Commission has issued an official statement, but the internal circular has already triggered widespread reactions among affected VIPs and the officers involved.
