Police Arrest Three, Recover Weapons as Rival Gangs Clash in Kano, One Killed

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects and recovered weapons following a violent clash between rival thug groups in Kabara and Magashi Quarters of the Kano metropolis.

The clash, which occurred on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, reportedly left one person dead while two others sustained injuries.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the fight broke out at about 10:53pm and was allegedly led by Usaini Noni of Kabara Quarters and Umar Tautau of Magashi Quarters.

According to the police, the violent confrontation terrorised residents of the affected areas and resulted in the death of one Adam Badamasi, popularly known as “Choli.” Two other victims, Ahmed Basiru and Akilu Usman, sustained varying degrees of injuries.

SP Kiyawa disclosed that upon receiving the report, combined teams of police officers swiftly moved to the scene, where they met a rowdy situation involving members of different vigilante groups. The area was immediately cordoned off to prevent further escalation.

He added that three suspects were arrested in connection with the incident. They are Bazallahi Umar (20), Abdullahi Umar (20), and Abubakar Sani (23).

“The injured victims were rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where one of them was certified dead by medical personnel,” the statement said, noting that sustained police operations in the area helped restore normalcy.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident with a view to bringing all those responsible to justice.

The police command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to provide timely and useful information to security agencies to aid crime prevention.
