Plans are underway for a 5,000-capacity events centre – Tourism Minister

Ghana could soon see a major boost in its events and conference landscape as government intensifies efforts to expand infrastructure to support entertainment, tourism and the creative economy.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, says the lack of modern, large-capacity venues continues to affect the country’s ability to host major international gatherings.

In an interview on Citi FM on January 13, 2025, the Minister revealed that plans are in motion to develop a 5,000-capacity multipurpose facility for entertainment shows and global conferences. “We are pushing for a 5,000 and over capacity space for entertainment and meetings. We are not able to push conferences here because we don’t have the facility,” she said, explaining that the project aligns with government’s agenda to drive tourism revenue, create employment and strengthen Ghana’s global appeal. She also confirmed ongoing discussions with British actor and producer Idris Elba over a proposed development around the Osu Castle, although no agreement has been finalised.

Her revelation comes amid growing private-sector interest in Ghana’s creative and events infrastructure. Recall Nigerian musician and emPawa Africa founder, Mr Eazi, revealed plans to invest $2 million in the construction of a 3,000-capacity indoor event centre in Accra. He made the pledge publicly during his headline performance at Detty Rave 2025 on December 27 at Untamed Empire.
