Plan to distribute 1 million Bibles in honour of Seyi Tinubu @ 40 sparks reactions

The plan by the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria to distribute 1 million Bibles across the nation to celebrate the 40th birthday of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, has sparked a series of reactions on social media

The initiative was announced on Sunday October 12, according to reports during a Thanksgiving Service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, and coordinated by the National Chairman of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Hon. Belusochukwu Enwere,

Enwere reportedly described the one million Bible project as a gift to the Body of Christ and a seed for moral transformation.

He was quoted as saying, “The effort will help to restore integrity, compassion, and love for humanity among young Nigerians.”

But several reactions have since greeted the report on social media, with many reading an ulterior motive to the gesture.

An X user, Temitayo, says, “You don’t teach a man how to swim when he is drowning! In a country where there is hunger and pervasive poverty, you are sharing the Bible? You don’t evangelise to a hungry man, you feed him first!”

Another wrote, “Tinubu family dey distribute salvation while people still dey find salary. Priorities from Mount Sinai”

Melo GM wrote in his reaction to the story on Instalblog9ja wrote, “one million Bibles won’t fix unemployment, security, or hunger. Nigeria needs visionary leadership, not another round of religious symbolism. Although faith can guide values but when politicians use religion to pacify the masses, progress dies. We need jobs, justice and development, not distractions.”

Also reacting, Talktovee wrote, “Father and son are strategists. Sharing the Bible to tell us what? lol The Christians being slaughtered in the North don’t need a Bible, go and celebrate your birthday with them without security, let’s see. Hunger dey wire us ..xxxx wan share Bible. Na bible una dey chop for Aso rock?

Kevin, in his reaction also on the X handle wrote, “Despite all the happenings in the country, the sufferings, difficulties, many people taken away from their homes, people getting killed, all you can do is to share Bibles to one million people for what exactly?”

The Thanksgiving service during which the gesture was announced was simultaneously held in about 40 churches nationwide, according to reports. The event featured prayers and exhortations for the Tinubu family and the nation at large.

Chaplain of the National Christian Centre, Rev. Ini Ukpuho, was said to have special prayers during the event. He described the Bible distribution initiative as timely amid growing concerns over the erosion of moral values in society.

In a message read on his behalf, Seyi Tinubu expressed gratitude to the organisers, noting that faith-based education and moral discipline are necessary ingredients for nation building.

The first batch of Bibles according to the report will be distributed in the coming weeks through churches, schools, and youth ministries across the country
