Peter Obi, Atiku Will Come For My Head - Wike Explains Why He Is Backing Tinubu For 2027

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has made it clear that he is willing to take the political heat that may come with his decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.

Speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Wike acknowledged that backing Tinubu could have serious political consequences, especially if the President eventually loses to opposition figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

According to the former Rivers State governor, he is well aware that he could become one of the first political figures targeted by the opposition if Tinubu is defeated.

“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head.”

Despite the possible backlash, Wike said he has no regrets about his decision and remains fully committed to helping Tinubu win the 2027 presidential election.

He revealed just how strongly focused he is on the President’s re-election, saying:

“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection.”

Wike also addressed the criticism and name-calling he has received because of his political alliance with Tinubu. He said the attacks have been intense but insisted that they have not shaken his resolve.

“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their own thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President.”

The FCT minister maintained that he stands firmly by his decision and will continue to mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election, regardless of the political consequences.
