The The Pentagon is reportedly making plans to deploy about 3,000 soldiers from the U.S. Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East as part of ongoing operations linked to Iran.

According to two U.S. officials cited by The Wall Street Journal, defense authorities are expected to officially announce the deployment of a brigade combat team from the division in the coming days.

While officials have stressed that there is currently no confirmed decision to send ground troops into Iran, the potential deployment could provide Donald Trump with more strategic options. These may include reopening the Strait of Hormuz, securing key locations, or carrying out targeted military operations depending on how the situation evolves.

Another option under consideration, if approved by President Trump, involves deploying around 2,500 troops from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, which is already heading toward the region, for a possible mission to seize a strategic island.

The 82nd Airborne Division is known as the U.S. Army’s rapid-response force, capable of deploying anywhere in the world within 24 hours. The unit is specially trained for airborne missions, including parachuting into hostile or contested areas to secure airfields and other critical positions.

At the same time, the United Kingdom is preparing to lead a multinational maritime effort aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz once tensions begin to ease.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most important routes for global oil supply, and any disruption could have serious consequences for international markets. Britain’s plan to spearhead the coalition highlights broader global efforts to secure vital shipping lanes and maintain economic stability during and after the conflict.
