According to Punch, Desmond Eke, founder of Deliverance Ministry of the Good Shepherd in Imo State, has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for exploiting a church member’s wife. Justice T.N. Nzeukwu found Eke guilty of taking advantage of the woman’s trust and administering a substance to make her dizzy and weak.

The incident occurred when the woman, who was a member of Eke’s church, sought his guidance. Eke, however, used this opportunity to exploit her vulnerability. He claimed that his actions were justified, but the court saw through his deceit.

The court convicted Eke of breaching trust and exploiting the woman, but discharged him on the count of causing harm. The defense counsel pleaded for mercy, citing Eke’s good behavior during the trial. However, the court sentenced him to 8 years in prison, recognizing the severity of his actions.

This case marks the first prosecution under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act in Imo State. A civil society organization, Onurube, reported the matter and followed it up to its conclusion. The convener of Onurube, Marjorie Ezihe, praised the court’s decision, stating that it would serve as a deterrent to those who seek to exploit others….Seē_Morē
