Oyo State Kidnapping: Schoolteacher Beheaded by Bandits in Oriire

Tragedy has struck in Oyo State following the k#lling of one of the teachers kidnapped from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo state, Nigeria.

The victim, Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly killed by his captors, a development that has deepened fears for the safety of others still being held.

The news has left the community in mourning, with residents and families of the victims calling on authorities to urgently step up efforts to rescue those still in captivity.

Confirming the incident, Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde, said the governor has extended his condolences to the family of the deceased.

He also assured the public that the government is exploring both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to secure the release of the remaining victims.

According to him, progress has already been made, with about six suspects arrested in connection with the kidnapping. Some of those detained are believed to have played roles as informants or provided logistics support to the abductors.

He further disclosed that members of the security team, including soldiers, Amotekun operatives, and local vigilantes, lost their lives during rescue efforts after encountering Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by the kidnappers. Injured personnel are currently receiving treatment and responding well.

Appealing for calm, he urged families, religious leaders, and concerned individuals to remain patient, assuring them that the government remains committed to bringing the victims home safely.

“So, please, there may not be quick fixes, but we will continue to endeavour to push ourselves to the limit to resolve this quickly,” he said.

Reports indicate that a total of seven teachers were abducted when gunmen invaded the school on May 15, taking away the principal, staff, and several students.
