Oyo Executive Council Approves Multi-Billion Naira Road Projects, Sports and Environmental Initiatives

The Oyo State Executive Council, led by the Acting Governor, His Excellency Barr. Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal, on Monday approved a series of major infrastructure and development projects across the state.

Top on the list is the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the 13.6km Ojoo Interchange–IITA–Moniya Junction–Akinyele Interchange with spurs to the New Oyo Expressway in Ibadan, valued at ₦63.6 billion. The project, designed as a six-lane dual carriageway, is expected to be completed within 18 months.

Also approved is the reconstruction of the 30km Okaka Junction–Otu–Igbojaye–KAP Film Village Road, including the construction of bridges across Otu and Ofiki rivers, at a cost of ₦26.4 billion, with an 18-month timeline.

The council further gave the nod for the dualisation of the 6.2km Ajia Junction (Ibadan–Ife Interchange)–Nigerian Air Force Base Road at a cost of ₦17.1 billion, to be delivered in 12 months.

In Eruwa, the state approved the reconstruction of Isaba–Ogundoyin Road (0.75km) and Lanlate Garage Junction–Local Government Junction–Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic–Oke Ola Junction Road (1.9km), estimated at ₦4.1 billion, also with a 12-month completion period.

Other road projects include the completion of the 12km Apete–Awotan–Akufo Road with an extended scope to Akufo Farm Settlement Road (2.2km), pegged at ₦1.9 billion, as well as limited patching of selected roads in Ibadan metropolis, thermoplastic road markings, and kerbs painting, budgeted at ₦444.7 million.

Beyond roads, the council approved ₦110 million for the camping and hosting of Nigeria’s under-20 women’s national football team ahead of their World Cup qualifying match against Rwanda in Ibadan.

In the area of environmental sustainability, the council sanctioned the planting of economic trees along the 32km South-East Wing of the 110km Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road, Ibadan, at a cost of ₦108 million.

Speaking after the meeting, the Acting Governor emphasized that the approvals reflect the administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal, youth development, and environmental sustainability.
