Soldier Soja Boy recently spoke candidly about the financial and personal hardships he faces in service.

He described the daily struggles of surviving on a low salary, covering the cost of essential military equipment from his own pocket, and enduring long deployments that often extend beyond initial expectations.

During his conversation on the HonestBunch podcast, Soja Boy explained, “As a soldier, my last salary was 109k. It was even last year February they increased the salary. It was 51k then plus 20k before, that’s 71k they just increased it to 109 last year.”

Asked how he manages with so little pay, he admitted, “The suffer no be small. Apart from the salary, nothing more.”

He further highlighted the personal expenses required for service, saying, “They don’t give us uniform at all. Our uniform alone is 55k, boot is 60k, and we pay for them with our money. Same with helmet and bulletproof vest.”

“If you see any soldier wearing that, maybe they have a big visit from the governor or they are going to an official occasion; then they will pack it and give it to us as eye-service” He further stated.

Reflecting on his deployment, Soja Boy added, “I spent 4 years, 9 months in Maiduguri even though they told us it’d be 2 years. I lost my friend,” highlighting the personal and emotional costs of serving in high-risk areas.
