The Oodua Youth Parliament has challenged the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi over alleged misconduct by officers of the security unit.

Recall that the Commandant-General Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has ordered the arrest of some of Civil Defenders serving in its Provost Unit and to appear before a disciplinary committee for assaulting a middle-aged man, accused of stealing the manhood of two persons at the Sauka area of Abuja.

The decision followed a response to a trending video posted on social media handles, showing some NSCDC personnel manhandling the man at the premises of the Corps national headquarters in Abuja.

The Service spokesperson, CSC Babawale Afolabi, who spoke exclusively to LEADERSHIP correspondent on the incident, acknowledged that the officers acted unprofessionally, adding that the NSCDC CG, who frowned at the development would not tolerate such overzealous and unprofessional act from his officers, who are supposed to be civil in their dealings with the public.

But reacting to the development, Oodua Youth Parliament Speaker, Aare Abdulmajeed Oladimeji Oyeniyi said the justice is yet to be served.

The press release reads:

We’re deeply troubled by reports alleging mistreatment and unjust assault by some NSCDC officers against an individual accused of a serious offense. While acknowledging NSCDC’s reputation as a formidable security agency, resorting to torturing a suspect yet to be proven guilty in court is alarming.

Our inquiry: Have these officers faced trial and received appropriate consequences? The current answer is NO! We demand these officers undergo an immediate public trial within 7 days. Failure to comply may lead us to call for the removal of the NSCDC Commandant.

We urgently call upon the President and the National Assembly to swiftly ensure justice and hold the perpetrators accountable. We implore the National Assembly to thoroughly investigate this assault for justice to prevail.

AARE Abdulmajeed Oladimeji Oyeniyi
Speaker, Oodua Youth Parliament.

B. Olumide Adeyemi Media Aide to AARE Oodua Youth Parliament.
