One of the most popular spots in Cyprus is the beach resort of Paphos which last year was voted one of the most liveable small cities in the world.

The coastal resort is of course known for its beaches, archaeological sites and being the birthplace of Aphrodite at Aphrodite’s Rock.

Deputy Travel Editor Kara Godfrey visited the city last year and discovered the strong shots of Zivania, a Cypriot brandy, as well as blue wine.

Just outside of Paphos and you’ll discover citrus trees, vineyards and roadside coffee stalls.

Popular beaches in Paphos include Coral Bay as well as its neighbors, Corallia Beach and St. Georges Bay.

As for where to stay, Paphos has plenty of five-star resorts as well as more affordable hotelsSun Travel found a self-catered Airbnb for £32 a night.

On the southern coast is the city of Limassol, which is actually the hottest within the island.

Some of the best sunbathing spots in the city are Kourion Beach, and another is Pissouri Beach.

It’s also where you’ll find Limassol Salt Lake, the largest inland body of water on the island of Cyprus – and one of the most important wetlands in the Mediterranean.

Visitors will be able to spot lots of birds, in particular flamingos where there can be up to 20,000 during the winter.

A popular attraction is the Fasouri Watermania Waterpark which has one of the largest wave pools in Europe.

Ayia Napa is on the southeast coast of Cyprus and is known as the island’s ‘party city’.

If you’re not looking for a party, it’s still a great spot as it has some of the best budget-friendly hotels – which will be cheaper in October than peak summertime.

The four-star Melpo Antia Hotel & Suites in Ayia Napa is £80 per night during October.

The hotel has a pool, spa, gym, beauty salon, bar, restaurant and it’s less than two miles away from Nissi Beach.

As for getting to Cyprus, Brits can fly from London Luton to Paphos with easyjet from £25 – leaving on October 29.
