The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old man, identified as Ademola Joshua, over an alleged case of incest and sexual abuse involving a 15-year-old minor.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the suspect allegedly impregnated the minor.

According to Jimoh, the case was reported to the police on January 4 by one Adewale of Ilara-Mokin, who accused the suspect of engaging in unlawful sexual activities with his sister’s daughter.

He explained that the alleged abuse came to light after inquiries were made into the cause of the victim’s pregnancy.

“Upon receipt of this disturbing report, the case was immediately referred to the Gender-Based Violence Unit of the command for discreet and thorough investigation,” Jimoh said.

He added that the suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The police spokesperson reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of women and children, stressing that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence would be made to face the full weight of the law without compromise.

Jimoh noted that the arrest aligns with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, whose reform-driven leadership, he said, continues to strengthen gender-sensitive policing across the country.

He explained that the IGP’s vision is aimed at promoting accountability and enhancing strategic responses to sexual and gender-based violence nationwide, adding that the Ondo State Command remains resolute in translating this vision into visible actions that build public trust and enhance community safety.

The command also commended members of the public for their timely and courageous reporting of the incident and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible and actionable information to the police for prompt intervention.

“Together, we can build a safer society for our children and generations unborn,” Jimoh said.
