Olowookere confident Flamingos will bounce back against France

Flamingos head coach Bankole Olowookere says he is confident Nigeria will respond positively when they face France in their second group game at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The Nigerian girls suffered a 4-1 defeat to Canada in their opening fixture despite dominating the first half. They now need at least a draw against France to keep their hopes of progressing alive.

France began their campaign with a 4-2 victory over Samoa and will head into the match as favourites.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Olowookere said his team has addressed the mistakes made in their first outing.

“We have seen the mistakes and told ourselves there were cracks in the first game that we needed to fix,” he told the team’s media. 

“Towards the end of that match, we conceded three cheap goals. It’s important we work on our concentration to ensure that doesn’t happen again.

“In the first half, we were in total control but failed to convert our chances. We must avoid a repeat of that in the next game.”
