Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has weighed in on Victor Osimhen’s modest goal return for Nigeria at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Osimhen has scored once in three matches for Eric Chelle’s side so far and will be hoping to add to his tally when the Super Eagles face Mozambique in Monday’s Round of 16 encounter.

Speaking on Global Football Insight, Oliseh acknowledged Osimhen’s desire to score but praised the striker’s growing collective approach at the tournament.

“Osimhen wants to score. I think it’s in his best interest that he scores goals, but what he is been doing that I find very interesting is that, especially in the last game [Nigeria vs Uganda], what I liked was that he was looking more collective,” Oliseh said.

“He was looking for a way to find ways to play, and I think that is good. Look at the last AFCON, he scored only one goal, and we got to the final.

“If he is going to score one goal again and Nigeria gets to the final, then let him score just one goal. I will take that one over scoring six goals and Nigeria goes out.”

Oliseh’s comments underline the belief that Osimhen’s overall contribution to team play could prove just as vital as his goals as Nigeria chase continental glory.
