Ogun To Arraign Driver Of Stationary Truck In Anthony Joshua Accident

The Ogun State Government is set to initiate criminal proceedings against Abubakar Adamu, the driver of the stationary truck involved in the accident that claimed the lives of associates of Anthony Joshua.

During proceedings on Thursday, the state’s senior counsel, D.O. Ogunyomi, appeared in court to take over the matter involving Adeniyi Kayode, who was driving the Lexus SUV at the time of the crash.

Ogunyomi requested that the charges against both drivers be merged, noting that they were jointly connected to the incident. The court accepted the application after reviewing the legal advice issued by the Ogun State Department of Public Prosecution (DPP), which recommended that Kayode face trial for reckless driving alongside the truck driver.

Magistrate Olufunmilayo Somefun approved the consolidation of the charges and adjourned the case until June 2, 2026.

The tragic accident occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Sagamu route, when the vehicle conveying Joshua and his associates collided with a truck parked on the roadside.

While the boxer survived with minor injuries, two of his close associates — Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami — lost their lives.

Ghami, a longtime associate of Joshua, served as his strength and conditioning coach, while Latif was his personal trainer.

Following the incident, Kayode was arrested and arraigned on charges including dangerous driving causing death and negligent driving. The case was subsequently referred to the DPP for further legal action.

At an earlier hearing, counsel for the prosecution, R.D. Kadiri, had informed the court that new evidence had emerged, prompting a request for additional time to update the case.

However, defence lawyer Abiodun Olalekan objected, alleging unnecessary delays in the prosecution’s handling of the matter.
