NTSA Appoints Nashon Kondiwa as the New Director General

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has named Nashon Kondiwa as the Director General for a three-year term, effective February 17, 2026.

In a statement dated February 18, 2026, the Board expressed confidence in Kondiwa’s “proven expertise” in ICT leadership, strategic vision, and deep institutional knowledge, and stated that this will help steer NTSA to even greater heights. 

“The Board is confident that Mr. Kondiwa’s proven expertise in ICT leadership, strategic vision, Transportation and deep institutional knowledge will steer NTSA to even greater heights, delivering measurable improvements in Road Transport management, road safety outcomes, and operational excellence.”

Nashon Kandiwa succeeds former Director General George Njao, who completed his two terms in late 2025. Angela Wanjira has been acting as the director since November 2025.

Nashon Kondiwa has over 22 years of experience in ICT, innovation, public sector leadership, intelligent transport systems, and digital transformation in the transport sector.

Prior to his appointment, Kondiwa served as the Deputy Director of Information Communication Technology at NTSA, where he spearheaded the Digital Transformation of the Authority and its service delivery systems.

He also served as Program Manager of the Fixed Network Transformation at Telkom Kenya, contributing to network infrastructure upgrades.

Nashon Kondiwa holds a Master of Science degree from ESIE France and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Engineering from Maseno University.

He has also attended the Technical University of Malaysia and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute. 

Responsibilities of the DG, According to NTSA

According to the Authority, some of the responsibilities of the director general will include :

  • Providing leadership in implementing the Authority’s business plans and strategy.
  • Overseeing planning, development, and execution of programs, projects, and operational plans as envisioned in the NTSA Act, 2012, for achieving the Authority’s objectives.

  • Co-operating with lead agencies and organizations locally and globally in the Road Transport sub-sector.
  • Supporting the Board in articulating and promoting the Authority’s Vision in line with its mandate, powers, functions, strategic objectives, reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Establishing a strong regulatory, advisory, enforcement, and administrative platform for safety on Kenyan roads as stipulated in the NTSA Act, 2012.
  • Ensure the utilization of resources in accordance with the Public Finance Management Act, 2012, and other relevant legal requirements governing the use of public resources.
  • Developing a robust operational framework and system for motor vehicle inspection in Kenya.
