NSUK Senate Approves New Programmes Across Health, Engineering and Climate Studies

Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) Senate has approved the establishment of new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across health sciences, engineering, climate studies, education, Islamic finance and public relations.

The approvals came through the 136th, 137th and 138th Regular Meetings of the Senate. The move expands the university’s academic offerings and reflects its focus on specialist training in medical sciences, engineering and climate change.

Health sciences programmes approved by NSUK Senate

To strengthen the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, the Senate approved two professional degree programmes.

These are:

  • Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc.), to be domiciled in the Department of Nursing Science
  • Bachelor of Radiography (B.Rad.), to be domiciled in the Department of Radiography and Radiation Sciences

The addition brings New academic options into the college; it also widens the professional courses now approved under health and allied fields.

Climate change programmes approved under AM3C

Under the Amina Mohammed Centre for Climate Change (AM3C), the Senate approved Ph.D. and M.Sc. programmes in these areas:

  • Climate Change and Precision Agriculture Innovation
  • Agroecology and Ecosystem Services
  • Climate Finance and Policy
  • Climate Change, Gender and Global Health

These postgraduate programmes sit within the university’s response to environmental challenges and climate-related study areas.

New engineering courses at NSUK

The Faculty of Engineering will now offer two new disciplines.

They are:

  • B.Eng. Mining Engineering
  • B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering

Mining Engineering draws from the mineral-rich setting of Nasarawa State. Mechanical Engineering enters as a core addition to the faculty’s academic line-up.

Special education and humanities programmes approved

The Senate also approved fresh postgraduate options in special education and professional studies.

Department of Special Education

At Ph.D. level, the approved areas are:

  • Learning Disabilities (LD)
  • Hearing Impairment (HD)
  • Visual Impairment (VI)

Department of Islam and Development Studies

The department received approval for:

  • Postgraduate Diploma
  • Professional Masters in Zakat, WAQF, and Islamic Finance

Faculty of Communication and Media Studies

The faculty also received approval for:

  • Professional Masters in Public Relations

This programme will be domiciled in the Department of Mass Communication.
