The collaboration will focus on 3 key areas such as BRT Regulation and Corridor development, oversight for the Blue and Red Lines in the areas of electrification and ridership growth, and Biogas Plant Development, to support the transition from fossil fuels to biofuel alternatives.

A pivotal aspect of the partnership is its support for LAMATA’s ambitious goal of deploying eco-friendly 10,000 electric buses in Lagos State by 2030.

In a first in Nigeria’s aviation sector, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) also announced the launch and deployment of electric vehicles (EVs) for airside operations across Nigeria’s five international airports — Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Enugu.

The agency said that the adoption of these eco-friendly electric vehicles (EVs) will offer multiple benefits — from zero emissions and lower maintenance costs to reduced noise levels and improved energy efficiency.

Powered by a 30 kW rear-mounted electric motor, the electric vehicle, a Bestune Pony, uses a 18.11 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery-pack, which allows a driving range of up to 200 kilometers (approximately 124 miles) per charge.

According Nimet, the vehicles will be supported by dedicated charging stations at each airport — creating a practical and eco-friendly ecosystem that supports day-to-day operations without reliance on fossil fuels.
