Nnadozie hails Super Falcons’ important win over Benin in WAFCON qualifier

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has described Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Benin Republic as a crucial step toward qualifying for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

First-half goals from Chiwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo sealed the victory for the defending champions in the first leg of the second-round qualifier, played in Lome, Togo, on Friday.

Ihezuo opened the scoring in the 25th minute, before Okoronkwo doubled the lead two minutes into first-half stoppage time.

Nnadozie, who delivered a commanding performance between the sticks, expressed delight on X, stating “An important away win in Lome, we keep going.”

The return leg is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The aggregate winner will advance to the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco, where the top four teams will qualify directly for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, while two additional sides will compete in inter-confederation playoffs.
