Nigerian Navy Dismisses Lieutenant, Jails Him 3 Years Over Affair With Colleague Wife

The Nigerian Navy has dismissed a serving officer, a Lieutenant, after he was found guilty of engaging in an affair with a colleague’s wife. The officer was also sentenced to three years’ imprisonment following the verdict of a Special Court Martial (SCM).

“The SCM, at the conclusion of its proceedings, found the dismissed Officer guilty as charged, hence the sentence of three years imprisonment and Dismissal from the Nigerian Navy which took effect from November 23, 2024”. The statement reads

According to sources, the judgment was confirmed by the Naval Headquarters, Abuja, and the punishment was carried out at the Nigerian Navy Institute of Technology (NNIT) Parade Ground, Sapele, on Friday, August 29, 2025.

The officer faced a four-count charge, including: Engaging in s£xual relations with a service personnel’s wife, contrary to Section 79 of the Armed Forces Act (AFA) CAP A20 LFN 2004.

Scandalous conduct unbecoming of an officer, contrary to Section 91 of the AFA.

Deceiving a witness, contrary to Section 122 of the Criminal Code Act CAP C380 pursuant to Section 114 of the AFA.
