Nigerian Institute of Journalism Opens 2025/2026 Admission Forms

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism in Lagos has quietly opened its gates again. Admission forms for the 2025/2026 session are out, covering diploma, postgraduate, and short-term courses. It is one of those announcements that may look like a small flyer on a wall, but for someone out there, it could change everything.

Regular Programmes On Offer

The institute has kept its list simple but wide enough for all kinds of learners.

  • National Diploma (ND)
    • Five credit passes in O’Level exams. English, Literature, and Mathematics are non–negotiable.
    • Applicants must also sit for UTME.
  • Higher National Diploma (HND)
    • Courses: Journalism and Media Studies, Strategic Communication and Media Studies.
    • Same O’Level requirements as ND.
    • A National Diploma in Mass Communication, with at least a Lower Credit, plus one year of industry work.
  • Postgraduate Diploma
    • Areas: Print Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, and Public Relations/Advertising.
    • Requires a good HND or a degree from a university, any course background is fine.

It sounds like a lot of steps, but it is just the school making sure people are ready before climbing higher.

Short Courses, For Quick Skills

Not everyone wants a four–year run. Some just need sharper skills, and NIJ has that covered.

  • Photojournalism Certificate (weekend classes only)
    • For practising photographers and amateurs alike.
    • Four months long.
  • Basic Photography Training
    • For total beginners, simple and straight.
  • Proficiency in Photography
    • Again, weekend only.
  • Writing and Communication Certificate
    • Saturdays only, four months long.

And every now and then, the school runs workshops too, short bursts of training in communication and related fields.

How To Apply Without Stress

Forms and details live on the NIJ official website. The Registrar’s office is also open to answer questions at 8–14, Ijaye Road, Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos. For those who prefer a call, these lines are active:

  • 0703 9221 173
  • 0805 9196 459
  • 0802 3252 756

Closing Thoughts

Admissions always sound formal, but they are also about people’s hopes. For some, it is the ND that matters, for others, just a weekend course to polish their craft. Whichever it is, the gates are open now, and like we say here, better no dulling.
