Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Ibrahim Gusau has expressed confidence in Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, insisting the Malian tactician believes he can fulfil his ambitions with the national team.

Chelle recently guided Nigeria to a record-extending ninth Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco. Although he did not meet the initial target reportedly set by the NFF regarding the tournament final, the federation appears satisfied with the team’s overall performance and is open to extending his stay.

Speaking to the Super Eagles media team, Gusau made it clear that Chelle remains under contract and is committed to the three-time African champions.

“We still have a one-year contract with Eric, so whatever interest anybody may show in him, they will have to wait until his contract expires,” Gusau said.

He added that the federation is keen to shield the coach from distractions, noting that Chelle enjoys working with Nigeria and remains focused on long-term success rather than financial incentives.

“It’s not about money,” Gusau explained. “The dream of every coach is to achieve success, especially at major tournaments. It’s about whether he can accomplish his goals and build something meaningful.”

According to Gusau, Chelle firmly believes the Super Eagles provide the right platform to achieve his coaching ambitions, particularly within African football.

“He has so much belief in the Super Eagles and has every confidence that he can achieve all his dreams here. We believe in him, and he is part of the Super Eagles and will continue to be part of the Super Eagles,” Gusau concluded.
