New twist in case of 19-year-old twins found dead on Bell Mountain as officials conclude investigation

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has concluded its investigations into the deaths of twin brothers Qaadir Malik Lewis and Naazir Rahim Lewis. The bodies of the 19-year-old twin brothers from Lawrenceville were found at the top of a Georgia mountain on March 8 in what authorities suspected was a “murder-suicide.”

The GBI has now ruled the case a suicide-suicide following an in-depth inquiry and autopsy results.  Relatives earlier told WXIA that they assumed the teenagers were visiting friends in Boston at the time of their deaths, leaving them horrified by the announcement.

Family members revealed that on March 7, 24 hours before the brothers were found at a location they felt Qaadir and Naazir had never been to before, the brothers booked a 7 a.m. trip to Boston. According to family members, the plane tickets were found in their wallets.

However, the GBI said Wednesday cell data helped it create a timeline of the twins’ location from their Gwinnett County home to Bell Mountain, which was about 90 miles away.

“In the video that corresponds to those locations, the Lewis brothers are seen alone,” the GBI said in a news release.

It added that on the day of the trip, only Naazir went to the airport. “Records show Naazir is the only person that had an airline ticket,” the GBI said.

It stated that its investigations show that Naazir also bought ammo that was used in the gun. The ammo was delivered to the boys’ home on March 5, three days before their bodies were found on Bell Mountain. Their phone’s internet history also showed searches for things like how to load a gun and 2024 suicide rates, the GBI added.

“Forensic evidence showed that the Lewis brothers fired a gun,” the news release from GBI stated, adding that the injuries sustained by the brothers were self-inflicted.

The Lewis family were initially not convinced that the brothers took their own lives. Their uncle, Rahim Brawner, told WXIA, “They’re very protective of each other. They love each other; they’re like inseparable. I couldn’t imagine them hurting each other because I’ve never seen them get into a fistfight before.”
