New Survey Explores Attitudes Toward Eco-Consciousness in Dating
The Story How important is the environment to you? If you’re an average millennial or Gen Zer, you’re likely to say a fair amount. But what about in a dating context? That’s what the app Flirtini wanted to find out in a recent study they conducted that asked people about the intersection of their eco-consciousness and their love lives. RELATED: Understanding Dating Green Flags The Snapshot The survey, which asked questions of nearly 1,200 millennial and Gen Z daters, found that a significant number of young people both care about the environment and want their romantic partners to as well. RELATED: Best Eco-Friendly Grooming Products for Men The majority of respondents to the survey, regardless of whether they were millennial or Gen Z, prefer dates who volunteer in an environmentally friendly capacity, prefer dates who thrift their clothing, and view those who engage in environmentally harmful behavior as exhibiting red flags. Meanwhile, just under a full quarter of respondents would see such actions as a total deal-breaker. The Lesson Though apparently acting on behalf of the environment can get you teased — fully two-thirds of respondents said they’d been ribbed at some point by a dating match about pro-environmental choices — roughly three-quarters of respondents said they were concerned about climate change.
