Fans have been clamouring for a new Subaru WRX STI ever since the last one bowed out at the end of the 2021 model year. We got a new WRX for 2022, and Subaru at the time said there were no plans to launch an STI version, at least for that generation. Subaru’s reasoning was that the turbocharged boxer was becoming old hat and that any new STI should explore alternative powertrain solutions, particularly electrified solutions.
