French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday said a new voluntary military national service, that he is set to announce later this week, does not involve “sending our youth to Ukraine”. His assurances follow an outcry over a top French general’s warning that the country should be “prepared to lose its children” amid increasing Russian threats.
