NEPC Trains Staff on Social Media, Artificial Intelligence to Boost Export Promotion

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has intensified efforts to strengthen institutional capacity as it organised a training session for staff on the use of social media and artificial intelligence (AI), aimed at improving the Council’s operational efficiency and global competitiveness.

The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Nonye Ayeni, disclosed this in a statement after the training, noting that the initiative forms part of NEPC’s broader strategy to equip its workforce with modern digital skills required to navigate the evolving global trade landscape.

According to Ayeni, the session was designed as a practical engagement where participants explored the strategic use of social media platforms and AI-powered tools to enhance productivity, communication, and export promotion activities.

She explained that the training focused on core principles, real-life applications and practical demonstrations that show how digital technologies can be deployed intentionally in day-to-day tasks within the Council.

Ayeni noted that the interactive nature of the training encouraged open conversations among staff members, allowing them to better understand the growing influence of digital platforms and emerging technologies in shaping modern business and trade ecosystems.

“For me, this is important. Building capacity within the Council is not optional; it is necessary. And that includes deepening our understanding of the transformative power of new media and digital tools,” she said.

She emphasised that institutions seeking to remain relevant and effective in a rapidly changing global economy must continuously invest in learning and adaptation.

Ayeni added that the Council is committed to ensuring its workforce remains well-positioned to leverage digital innovation to advance Nigeria’s export diversification agenda.

“If we want to remain relevant, effective and globally competitive, then we must continue to learn, unlearn and adapt. And that is exactly what we are doing,” she stated.

The NEPC boss also commended the facilitators who led the training, including Femi Taiwo of TeraWork and Ola Moses, for delivering an engaging and resourceful session for staff of the Council.

She expressed appreciation for their contributions and indicated the Council’s readiness to host similar sessions in the future as part of ongoing efforts to deepen staff knowledge in emerging technologies and digital communication.

Industry observers say initiatives such as the training reflect a growing recognition among public institutions that digital tools, including artificial intelligence and social media, are increasingly critical to policy implementation, stakeholder engagement and international market expansion.

The NEPC plays a central role in promoting Nigeria’s non-oil exports and supporting exporters with market intelligence, capacity building and trade facilitation services aimed at strengthening the country’s participation in global trade.
