Nearly 50% of American electric vehicle (EV) owners are considering switching back to gas-powered cars, according to McKinsey & Co.’s latest Mobility Consumer Pulse for 2024.

This survey, which included nearly 37,000 consumers worldwide, revealed that 46% of U.S. EV owners are “very” likely to revert to traditional combustion engines in their next vehicle purchase.

The surprising data points to big dissatisfaction among EV owners, primarily due to inadequate charging infrastructure (35%) and high overall ownership costs (34%), with only 11% of global EV owners feeling their local infrastructure is well-equipped.
