The Nairobi Hospital has announced leadership changes to the Board of Management of the Kenya Hospital Association (KHA) which manages the hospital.

In a notice on Friday January 10, KHA Board of Management chairman Dr. Chris Bichage announced the appointment of Felix Osano as the acting Chief Executive Officer. This  followed the exit of James Nyamongo as KHA boss upon expiry of his contract.

We wish to thank Mr. Nyamongo for his service and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” the notice reads in part.

Until his appointment, Felix Osano was the Director, Supply Chain within the hospital.

The interim CEO has more than 17 years’ experience spanning several industries including Private Equity, FMCG and Healthcare.

Prior to the expiry of Nyamongo’s contract as Nairobi Hospital CEO, he had been suspended by the Board.

Nyamongo was suspended in November indefinitely days after he was sent on compulsory leave after board members representing KHA voted in favor of the decision.

Nairobi Hospital changes

Dr. Bichage in a letter dated November 30, 2024, directed that the then embattled CEO does not return to the office until the Board advises accordingly.

He made reference to a letter dated November 22 regarding the embattled CEO’s leave.

“We refer to our letter dated 22 November 2024, ref. TNH/ADMIN/BOM/22/11/2024 regarding your annual leave. Due to unavoidable circumstances, you shall not return to the office until the Board of Management advises accordingly,” the letter read in part.

Following Nyamongo’s suspension, the Nairobi Hospital announced leadership changes to its BoM, Board of Trustees and Senior Management Team in a notice on Friday December 13, which the hospital said were made during their annual general meeting.

According to the new changes, Antipas Nyambok would the Head of Operations, Major (Rtd) Guido Aido Leariwala to serve as Chief Security Officer, and Trevour Adudah as the Head of Engineering.

“The senior management team is supported by a team of more than 2,000 employees in its quest to deliver world class quality healthcare,” the hospital said.

The Nairobi Hospital BoM oversees the hospital’s corporate governance and is accountable to KHA which ensures the hospital complies with the law while upholding the highest standards of corporate governance and business ethics.

Nyamongo’s exit comes following earlier boardroom wars last year when members of KHA called for an extraordinary general meeting.

In a petition addressed to the KHA board, the members of the requisition group who cited a loss of confidence the board directors’ leadership listed 13 directors, including Chairman Dr. Bichage and Vice Chairman Philemon Mwaisaka.

The owners alleged that the Nairobi Hospital board members had breached their legal and fiduciary duties towards the company and its interests.
