MTN executives, staff, partners and distinguished guests gathered at Centre Point Hall to honor outgoing Chief Operating Officer, Hassan Jaber, as he departs the MTN Group after 29 years of dedicated service and leadership.

The ceremony was filled with excitement and nostalgia as colleagues, friends, and family celebrated Jaber’s achievements and contributions to the company.

Jaber’s illustrious career at MTN began in 1998 as IT Manager at Spacefon (now MTN) in Accra, Ghana. He played a pivotal role in developing the company’s technology strategy and aided the growth of MTN’s IT departments in Benin and Liberia. He later served as Chief Information Officer of MTN Yemen and MTN Syria, before rising through the ranks to lead MTN as CEO in Guinea, Sudan, and Afghanistan. He became the youngest CEO within the MTN Group at age 32.

Before becoming COO at MTN Nigeria in 2022, Jaber served as COO at MTN Iran. During his tenure, he spearheaded MTN’s operations, solidifying the company’s position as a leading telecommunications service provider for millions of subscribers and driving market share and revenue growth.

In a heartfelt speech, Chief Executive Officer, MTN Nigeria, Karl Toriola praised Jaber’s dedication and highlighted their personal and professional relationship. “Hassan is a trusted colleague and brother. I’ve had the pleasure of working with him since 2006, and he has delivered exceptional results. His leadership has been instrumental in MTN’s success.”

Jaber’s legacy at MTN is marked by his tireless efforts to drive progress, foster a culture of efficiency, and deliver effective solutions. His strategic direction has been instrumental in MTN Nigeria’s commercial and technical success.

His final achievement includes working relentlessly with the rest of the team to secure the renewal and modification of MTN Nigeria’s lease agreement with IHS Towers, which will have a lasting impact on the company’s financial growth and expansion. “Hassan has been working tirelessly on this, he didn’t want to leave me with a problem to solve. And it’s huge for us because it is going to reduce our costs going forward. With the extension of the Lease from 2025 to 2032, we will manage forex expenditure and diesel costs,” said Toriola.

As Jaber embarked on his next journey, executives and colleagues praised his dedication and commitment, wishing him continued success and happiness.
