For over a decade, Joseph Omari, well known by his acting name Mr. Tembo, played the role of a school principal in Kenya’s top secondary school TV series, Tahidi High.

As one of the pioneer characters in the show, Mr. Tembo first served as the school deputy principal before eventually becoming the principal, a role that made him a household name.

Throughout his 11-year stay at Tahidi High, he was a mainstay and was known for being strict, authoritative, and no-nonsense.

In the long run, Omari parted ways with the Citizen TV high school series, leaving a great legacy as a disciplined school principal as well as a recognizable name across the country.

In this segment, Times Digital Kenya takes a look at how the veteran actor coped with life after he left Tahidi High.

How Mr Tembo Survives long after leaving Tahidi High

Unlike various actors from Tahidi High, some of whom fell into depression and others who went broke, Joseph Omari, alias Mr Tembo, has remained financially stable long after his departure from the show.

For him, during his days at the Tahidi High TV series, Mr Tembo actually made good money, just like his other colleagues, but how he chose to channel it may have differed from the others.

While speaking during an interview, Mr Tembo said that much of the money he made went into uplifting his family.

According to him, as opposed to some of his former colleagues at Tahidi High, he is reaping what he sowed; that is, what he invested in his children is paying off.

Omari now lives comfortably in a house gifted to him by his children, some of whom live in Sweden and Norway.

“If you went away from the family when you had money they will also do the same when you are down and need their help,” He said in an interview.

This is in contrast to some of the actors he worked with at Tahidi High who have gone on social media to beg for money, while others are battling depression due to harsh living conditions.
